Sam Durland is both a Certified Management Consultant and a Chartered Professional Engineer. He holds a BE(Hons) in Industrial Engineering from the University of New South Wales, has studied development economics at the University of Oxford and holds a MSocSc in International Development from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. He also holds a qualification in corporate governance from the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He has been accredited by the Australian Federal Government to deliver most of its organisational performance improvement programs, including World Competitive Manufacturing and World Competitive Service (strategic and business planning), Quality Management for Business, Advanced Manufacturing Technologies Investment Evaluation Guidelines (technical, operational and financial feasibility), Export Market Planning, Business Networks Program, and Supply Chain Partnerships Program (supply chain management). He has also been accredited by the New South Wales Government to deliver its Systems and Technology Diagnostic.

Mr Durland’s career includes management of a consulting practice, numerous assignments for both government and private sector clients, and senior executive positions with private enterprise, statutory authorities and government in Australia and Papua New Guinea. Since 1984, he has conducted more than 250 consulting assignments for private sector organisations, statutory bodies and government covering strategic management, business networking, supply chain management, quality management, export development, feasibility studies, environmental management, management training and development, and a wide range of international development activity. Sectors covered include manufacturing, engineering, agriculture, information and communications technology, education, government, a variety of services, and international development. Countries of work experience include Australia, Brazil, China, Fiji Islands, Ghana, Malaysia, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Solomon Islands, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States of America, and Vietnam.

Dr Penelope Murphy is a highly experienced international development consultant. She holds an MSc in Social Planning in Developing Countries from the London School of Economics and a PhD in Education Policy and Planning from the University of New England with particular reference to Papua New Guinea . She is multilingual, with fluency in English, French, Italian and Melanesian Pidgin, and a more elementary knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia, Chinese Standard Language, German, Hebrew and Spanish.

Dr Murphy’s career includes senior positions in health, education and research in Australia , Papua New Guinea and the United Kingdom . Since 1994, she has conducted more than 50 overseas assignments covering project feasibility and design, project monitoring and review, education and training, institutional strengthening, research policy and management, gender and development, organisational development, and governance.
